04:40 pm - I TOTALLY FORGOT
My choir is singing at Carnegie Hall next June. I totally want to go this time. So I am totally going to. Totally. I feel like I just found out I was pregnant and my due date is in June.

Wheeee.

04:27 pm - My Julia
If anything in the world was ever going to convince me to become a photographer, it would be my daughter Julia. Because even when she's AIMING for silly, ridiculous, playing with crazy makeup and camera settings to get that psychedelic overexposed look, she is still incredibly pretty to me.

Okay... so I enrolled Elora in a preschool. They have four year old classes, and then they have a superspeshul "Kindergarten Prep" class, for which one must pass an assessment. Elora went in today for her assessment and the lady very compassionately informed me after it was over that Elora had done very well on some things but that she wasn't writing yet, so they weren't sure. They would let us know in a couple of days which four-year olds would be in the Prep class and which ones would be in the regular class.

*blink*

whut?

She is supposed to be writing? In order to qualify for a Preschool class that prepares her for Kindergarten, she's supposed to already be writing? Whut? LOL. Wait... Whut?

We are the subject of today's Mini Page! Find a newspaper and dig through it. There we are. The Society for Creative Anachronism (uh-NA-kruh-ni-zum). Complete with Nifty Word Find. :)

The Mini Page is a section of children's articles and activities, usually focused on a specific subject, found in your average newspaper about once a week. Somewhere near the comics. The Mini Page has been in newspapers for a very long time. I believe it was originally published by cavemen on walls.

x-posted.

08:04 am - Clara McDonald
Clara McDonald turned 80 last year. She was still in charge of several committees. She had just come off of a term of serving as the Chair of the Board for the FUMC. She was a participant and avid supporter of the theater. She was actually in the first three productions. During the dress rehearsal for A Midsummer Night's Dream, she had a problem with her knee and had to withdraw suddenly, and she never felt quite able to come back. But she never missed a show and she never failed to support what we were doing, both as a theater and as a church.

Clara McDonald passed away this morning. She had suffered a stroke that left her left side paralyzed, and she was barely hanging on. I can imagine that she found that situation intolerable and is now on her feet again, reorganizing heaven.

RIP My lady. Have a great new adventure.

A couple of pictures of the lady )

Okay... there are two degrees of separation between me and this story.

http://www.sltrib.com/ci_12582429?source=most_viewed

One of the victims is my friend's younger brother.

But unemotionally separating myself from the situation, I can totally see that there is something missing between "Left House" and "Returned with weapon." Something that happened that changed EVERYTHING. I really really want to know what it is, and I probably will never find out because the man is probably going to plead guilty, negating the need for a trial or much of an investigation.

Somewhere on the internet are people who are friends of the assailant who are confused from the other side who want an answer to the same question. I halfway wish we could find each other.

But I don't intend to make contact, even though I know where some of them are now, because my brother-in-law is in prison (albeit for a decidedly less violent crime) and I'm wondering how I would feel if his victim's older sister's friend contacted me looking for answers.

What I will do is say, if through some totally unlikely search pattern, you end up here on my LJ, let me know you're here, and we'll talk it over. He's guilty. He said so himself. But something else is going on here.

03:28 pm - Ouch. Heart hurts.

Julia and Maggie.

They're taking a picture on the last day of a great production.
The one on the left is my daughter Julia. 14.
The one on the right is Maggie. 10 (I think.)

They're smiling so big because they made great friends during the production. They was like peas and carrots. Maggie told everyone in her family about her wonderful friend Julia.

My heart hurts because they have just found an inoperable malignant tumor on Maggie's brain stem. Some things in this world just don't make no kinda sense.

01:13 pm - It is February 3rd again.
Which means I missed my Imbolc post. But regardless. . .

It is the little child-of-destiny's birthday. She is now 4. Countdown to commencement of her real earthbound mission proceeds unabated.

Anyone wishing to ingest celebratory baked goods is welcome to come to the church/theater at 7:00 tomorrow night. There will be My Little Pony.

That is all.

09:18 pm - My greatest gift this Christmas...
was renewed faith in my father. Dear Dad... I am so proud of you.

Your nephew is now your niece. Your nephew has, in fact, been attempting to become your niece secretly for two years and just recently got up the courage to reveal this secret. (at my wedding).
You talked for weeks about how this disturbed you. How worried you were about being able to deal with this.

Your niece showed up for Christmas today (in a white blouse and tasteful black slacks) and you conducted yourself not just with grace and tolerance... but with downright loving acceptance.

You are still a man that can love his family, no matter how tested you feel.

I am so proud of you.

*hug*

ganked from [info]brianrubin

Your result for The 4-Variable IQ Test...

Interpersonal

Your strongest type of intelligence is Interpersonal. You thrive when thinking about people, social situations, and human interaction. That's very touching. You are very likely to be empathetic, sympathetic, and in general, less pathetic, than most other test takers.

Your specific scores follow. On any axis, a score above 25% means you use that kind of thinking more than average, and a score below 25% means you use it less. It says nothing about cognitive skills, just your interest.

Your brain is roughly:

30% Interpersonal

25%Visual

30%Verbal

15%Mathematical

Matching Summary: Each of us has different tastes. Still, I offer the following advice to the world.

1. Don't date someone if your interpersonal percentages differ by more than 20%.

2. Don't be friends with someone if your verbal percentages differ by more than 25%.

3. Don't have sex with someone if their math percentage is over 50%.
